Beer is a great thing, whether you are sessioning with some pals, enjoying a complex brew with a meal, or just kicking back with a few in front of the television on a Sunday afternoon. I have traveled to many places in the world and it has amazed me how the quality of beers will vary from country to country. For example, in the USA beer is brewed with a lot of preservatives. In my opinion this leads to massive headaches and hang-overs the morning after. However, in countries like Belgium and the Netherlands the beer is brewed sans preservatives allowing for a "fresher" flavor and a hurt free morning after. The Scandinavian countries, although not using many preservatives seem to "poison" their beer with hang-over inducing chemicals to discourage drinking. The beers in South America tend to be on the "light" lager side, and very thirst quenching. So, open up a bottle of beer and enjoy. The next time you are at a bar or liquor store reach for a beer that you have never tried before, you might be pleasantly surprised. And remember, light beer is not real beer.

Beer Reviews

Steele Reserve by Tex:

Steel Reserve 211

This beer is the shit.  Another reviewer said it "packs a decent punch at 7.5%." SR is actually 8.1%. Says it right on the can or bottle as it comes in both. All I can say is a couple of Steel tallboys and youre gonna be throwed.  Steel Reserve 211 is also the perfect breakfast food-you know youre getting all your vitamins and minerals with all that barley and hops floating around in there. Finally, this beer tastes damn good. Way better than Keystone or Bud or OE800 or any other cheap shit.

The Fort Collins Brew Fest, by Beer Guy:

Went to the Ft Collins beer fest last weekend and here are few thoughts. First of all I absolutely hate most generic American micro brew. I always wondered why they made such sickly sweet, tastes the same ale. A fellow attendee was pointing out to me that most smaller micros do this to attract the female clientele in hopes that the male will follow (but, really tho most unsophisticated male pallets don't mind the sickly sweet micro). So, all they have to do is make a crap sweet beer to attract the women and not worry about making a quality beer. I am sure that this is part of the problem. However, there has to be more involved. Because, it seems that you'd want to put out a good product as a brewer. Instead of harping on all the crap beer that I drank, I'd like to point out the few that were palatable. O'Dells makes a worthy slate of product, as does New Belgium. New Belgium's Fat Tire is a perfect example of the crap that I was speaking about previously. It is a very popular brew and I wish them all the success in the world, however, my recommendation is to peruse their other beers, the Trippel alone is worth it. All of their other product are very good as well. There were many smaller micros involved in the beer fest. I always tip my hat to local and small beer crafts-people. But, seriously folks, most of your product is SHITE! Make a decent beer for God's sake, take some pride in your work.

PBR, reviewed by a Packers Fan in Fort Collins:

I think PBR is a great beer to run your 36" Toro walkbehind. I suggest 5 or 7 before you check the dipstick. Open another as you top off the gas tank. Go behind the garage and fire it up. Put on your flip-flops and crank up the Minutemen. Make sure you take a break every twenty minutes or so. Go back to the beerstore as needed.

Schlitz Malt Liquor Bullmaster Cylinder, reviewed by Rulio Mendino of JoJa:

when i popped the top i was immediately overcome with visions of fire hydrants spraying forth on a hot summer day
the first sip greeted my palette like a kiss from lil' kim
'bout halfway through i started feelin' a good buzz goin', but that coulda been from the pain pills i'm takin' due to
my recent surgery
i got stoned and zoned out in front of cnbc for about 30 minutes, and finally got back to the master cylinder
by this time it was startin' to get warm and reminded me more of the urinals on the florida turnpike
all in all i give the schlitz malt liquor bull master cylinder a 3 out of 5 florida salutes

Steel reserve Lager, reviewed by JMY

Steel Reserve lager, out of the Forth-Worth, Texas area is clean, not filling, tasty, and packs a decent punch at 7.5% alcohol.  It is also inexpensive ($3.49 a six pack).  I started drinking it because it was cheap, but found out that it--like Pabst--is just damn good.
